Got a late start yesterday, didn’t leave the hostel until past noon because we had to do laundry and dryers in Asia take forever to dry. One thing on my checklist while in Sapporo was to try miso style ramen. I came across a video on youtube from Anthony Bourdain’s show about the ramen alley.

The small street of 10 or so ramen shops were only an 8 minute walk away from the hostel. Some shops were packed with people, others were empty. We decided to go with the one that Anthony Bourdain went to. Miso ramen was ok, I liked the sweet hokkaido butter and the corn was a nice addition but Tonkatsu ramen is still my favorite.

We quickly found out yesterday that an advantage and disadvantage from living in the Susukino area of Sapporo is that everything to do is in this neighborhood. Meaning, stuff is close but in our research on things to do we kind of covered everything on our almost 10 mile walk around the city during our first day here.

When I’m on a trip like this and changing from city to city, I want to take full advantage of my time here. It does come at a cost of getting tiresome of having to find activities for the day and not really having a familiar home base to do nothing. Today was kind of that day. I didn’t take many pictures since Joanna just went makeup shopping, I looked for bookstores for Japanese cookbooks in English, and we ate more food.

We’re planning on going Skiing in the nearby ski area right outside of town on our last full day in Sapporo.
