I still can’t shake this jet lag. Yesterday, I tried staying up as late as possible so I could sleep longer last night but I still woke a little after 3am. Our flight out to Krabi was at 9:30 but because we weren’t sure how long it would take to get to the airport and deal with airport stuff so we headed out at 6am since I was awake anyway. The flight was delayed a little over half an hour which made me a little worried as our ferry from Krabi town to Koh Phi Phi was at 1:30.

Thankfully, Xu arrived to Krabi the night before and walked us through the whole process on where to meet up with her. The airport shuttle dropped us off at her hotel and we grabbed some quick street food and Joanna finally got the durian she’s been craving since we arrived in Thailand. For those that don’t know, durian is a super smelly fruit that tastes like old bananas in sweaty socks. It’s an acquired taste, I never grew up eating it but I continue trying it given the opportunity. In my most Minnesotan way of saying it, I’m not a fan. Even though it’s one of the most popular fruits in SE Asia people are prohibited from bringing it onto public transportation.

The ferry shuttle came at 1, picked us up along with a bunch of other people that were headed to the island as well. Kind of out of nowhere, the rain just started pouring down as we were getting onto the ferry. I was a little worried the 1.5 hr ferry ride was going to be really turbulent but my lack of sleep came in handy and I literally passed out before we left the dock and woke up to our arrival.

When we got off the ferry, the hotel that we booked was less than a 7 min walk from the pier. I was on the fence when I was doing research for places to stay on KPP. This one was really highly rated online but didn’t have fancy amenities like a pool or private beach while the other places were fancier but also came with more bad reviews. I’m pretty happy with this choice as the room was only $30 and it had a view of the ocean.

The girls wanted to check out the beach and make it an instagram session. It was heavily overcast and the tide was low which didn’t make for very interesting pictures but here’s some pics from us wandering around the area.

I randomly chose a restaurant to eat at for dinner since we were pretty hungry, our first non street food meal since we got to Thailand. I googled the restaurant after we sat down and it made a bunch of top 10 lists of places to eat on the island. The atmosphere was nice, they played new orleans style jazz on the speakers, had trees growing in the middle of the restaurant, and strung incandescent lights too.

Xu suggested we find a Thai massage place to go to after dinner. We tried haggling prices with a few places but they wouldn’t budge on the price of $9 for an hour long massage. Super expensive, right? We settled on one place and me being the lucky one got the obvious lady boy as my masseuse. She seriously beat me up, used a lot of pressure, bent me in a bunch of weird ways, and even stood on my back to use her feet and full body weight to massage me. I’m not sure if I’d go back to that one because Joanna, Xu, and their masseuses were laughing at me for asking multiple times for her to take it easy on me.

I’m glad to be out of Bangkok, my internet service on my phone actually works much faster out here which is strange but a welcome surprise. We’ll be here for the next 3 days, not too many activities planned besides hanging out, scuba diving, and maybe doing a boat tour.
