My flight back home was scheduled to depart Madrid at 10am, arrive in Amsterdam for 3 hours, and then I’d arrive back home around 6pm Sunday evening. We had to pack up and leave the Airbnb at 6:30am as it was an hour drive from Segovia to the airport in Madrid.

We packed up the car, Luke handed me the car keys as I volunteered to drive us. I stared at them in my hand and thought for a second “I hope I remember to give them back to him when I get to the airport.”

It was too bad that we had to drive before the sun came up as I wasn’t able to enjoy the Spanish countryside one last time before flying out. We got to the airport right on time and took this pic before parting ways.

Luke and Halea planned on spending their morning at a nearby park before the museums opened up. They are flying out to Tunisia tomorrow for about a week, Johannesburg South Africa for 2 weeks, and then Western Australia for 3 weeks before heading home mid December. I wish I could join them!

As I was next in line to check in my bag, I got a text from Luke saying that they turned the car off and immediately realized that I still had the keys because of course I forgot. He had to catch an uber to the airport for me to return the keys back to him which I felt bad about, but at least I got another chance to say bye to my friend.

As I was waiting for Luke I texted Halea

Andrew: GREAT situation to use Me cago en la puta
Halea: Totally

Yay for learning Spanish!

Besides the key situation, the journey home was very smooth. I sat next to a girl on my flight from AMS to MSP that was really rude to the passenger in front. She pushed up her knees and shoes to the seat in front of her. The guy adjusted himself in his seat in a passive aggressive way but she just covered her whole body with a blanket. I felt bad for him but I didn’t want to find myself in the next viral airplane video.

Today’s inflight meal was curry chickpeas with golden raisins, roasted sweet potato, and feta cheese, Chicken and gnocchi in a creamy basil sauce. Absolutely delicious. After the meal service, I asked the flight attendant if there were any leftovers. He handed me 2 chickpea salads and 2 pasta dishes. JACKPOT! He said if I didn’t take them, they’d be thrown into the garbage anyway.

Joanna picked me up at 6pm and was very happy to find out that I had an extra airplane meal for her. We’re definitely made for each other as we are the only people I know that like airplane food.

We have a really crazy next few weeks in front of us. Planning to move to the new house this coming weekend and then Joanna’s sister is getting married the weekend after that.

I didn’t have a good place to share on my blog this trip but my grandma passed away in July at the age of 104. Last November, Kimberly, Joanna, and I made the effort to go to Hong Kong for a week to visit her (Blog Link) as I knew we couldn’t take the time we had available for granted. I’m so glad that we made that trip out to see her and the rest of my family.

Her final wishes were to be buried in Panama as my grandparents spent a majority of their adult lives there and to not be cremated. A ton of time and effort has gone into respecting her wishes and finally she was able to get transported there about 2 weeks ago. Funeral service will be on 10/28 so my whole family will be there for a few days at the end of October. I always blog about trips I take out of the country but I’ll probably make an exception and not do one as it’s just a quick family trip for 4 days.

Joanna and I have our IVF procedures scheduled for November and December so yah, it’s going to be a really crazy next few months for us. Hopefully things settle down in January and we can start trip planning again. I’m thinking Argentina, Iceland, or Malaysia/Indonesia?

Thanks for following along for this Spain trip, it really surpassed my expectations, and I anxiously await the next adventure!
