I’ve been up for about 26 hours with a few small naps during the flight but I need to make sure I keep this blog up otherwise I’ll fall behind.

This morning’s trip to the airport and flight couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Got up at 6am and headed to the airport shortly after. I have to do a huge shout out to the amazing service at Singapore Airlines. I’ve never had such good food, attentive staff, and comfortable seating, especially since we were sitting in coach.

There were 2 meals with a midnight snack and they said we could grab cookies, pudding, or sandwiches whenever we wanted between meals. I have to fly with Singpore airlines more often!

The flight was 12 hours long but it really didn’t feel that way. They offered like 350 different movies and tv shows to keep entertained. We got to Tokyo just fine and decided to hang around for an extra hour to wait for Stephanie and Alex who were coming in from Shanghai.

It took about an hour and a half to get to the hostel. Jack and Gretchen were waiting patiently for us when we arrived at around 6:30. It sounded like they had a great first day in Tokyo by themselves. They had ramen, visited an owl cafe and a cat cafe, and visited the temple in Asakusa.

On the top of my list was going to my favorite restaurant in the whole world, Yakitori Marukin in Shibuya. Not surprisingly, this restaurant was half full with foreigners because of how cheap it is to drink here. We met a group from Germany and a few guys from Cali, Tennessee, and Louisiana.

We each got dumplings, 7 yakitori skewers consisting of chicken breast, heart, skin, cartilage, liver, and beef, and all you can drink for $6 an hour (beer, whiskey, plum wine, and sake). Gretchen also decided to order french fries which were surprisingly very good. All of it totaled to less than $13 an hour. I had about 11 drinks within our hour window 😀

After dinner we decided to play some games at an arcade. Even though everything is in Japanese, you tend to pick up on what to do rather quickly. We even did a photo booth. In Japan the software automatically enlarges your eyes, adds makeup, makes your chin pointy, and makes your legs longer. I think I’ll stick with my regular look.

It was a fantastic first night in Tokyo. I just love that there’s so much to do and see within easy reach of the subway. Tomorrow’s another full day of activities!
