Right now it’s 12:30 am Hong Kong time.
Ugh, I feel like so much has happened in the past 24 hrs I don’t know where to start.

Ok so continuing from my last post I was getting on the plane going directly from Newark to Hong Kong. I had my seat assignment changed so a kid could sit next to their parent, which was fine, but just tosee if it would work I asked if I could then get upgraded to First Class. Unfortunately, that didn’t work.

All the seats had video screens in front of them and I spent about 10 minutes going through the 200 movie collection and deciding which ones I would want to watch during my trip. We took off and I spent about half an hour reading the book that I brought. I felt bad for the guy and girl that were sitting next to me because they fell asleep but their heads were violently nodding up and down, at one point they smacked into each other lol

After it was ok to take out electronics, the video monitor crashed and they said that they were “working on it”. They tried rebooting it but it seemed like the only way to fix it was once they touched down so yah, no movies for me. Lucklythere were power outlets under the seats so I finished the rest of season 1 of BSG.

I got to know the two very nice people in my row, Lillian and Lawrence. Lawrence is studying at Georgia Tech getting his masters in Engineering and also getting his pilot’s license. Lillian works at Pricewaterhousecooper in Toronto and is a CPA doing forensic accounting. Both were about my age and we had a good time chatting throughout the flight. I honestly am disappointed at myself because they both regularly go to Hong Kong at least once every 3 months, yet I haven’t been back for 7 years. Lawrence is planning on visiting his sister in Nepal and will be on vacation for at least a month, Lillian will be away for a month just hanging out in Hong Kong.

Although the in flight entertainment was broken, the 16 hour flight went by quickly. I think I got a total of 5 hours of sleep here and there.

I arrived exactly at 8:30 pm HK time and to my surprise, there was free wifi throughout the airport so I was able to use Whatsapp to text my cousin Calvin. He told me to hang tight and grab a beer in the meantime which is exactly what I did

It was about a 30 min bus ride to my family’s guest apartment and again to my surprise, there was free wifi throughout the entire bus ride. I honestly have to raise the question as to why we don’t have this in the US?
After I got cleaned up we went out to eat around the corner at Japanese restaurant. I apologize that I don’t have any pictures because I had to leave everything behind to charge but I promise I’ll take plenty going forward.
We ordered salmon sashimi with raw sea urchin with salmon and flying fish roe on top of sushi rice. It also came with a side of miso soup and a cup of steamed eggs. Everything was SO good.

Throughout this blog I will definitely be posting big observations that I notice comparing life here vs back home. I basically conducted an interview with my cousin about working habits here, cost of living, and life in general so I’ll post that later on. One thing that made me happy was that I blended into the crowd and even though I’m not that tall (5’8’’) I was taller than half the people on the street ^_^

As of right now I don’t have any plans as to what to buy or where to visit in HK, which I think is a pretty good plan in and of itself. I do however need to find an internet source. I’m typing this blog post out on MS word and hope to find a café tomorrow to upload it.
I’ve been up for pretty much 24 hrs and have been traveling for 2 days so I’m going to sleep, tomorrow I need to get a SIM card for my phone and will be grabbing dim sum with my aunt and uncle.

Goodnight
