As expected, I started feeling the symptoms of chemo on day 3. General fatigue and nausea set in when I woke up in the morning. It’s just a general yucky feeling when you wake up expecting to be refreshed after a full night’s sleep and you don’t.
I was glad to get some visitors while my morale was a little low. My classmates Chris and Sandy made the treck down to visit me for a few hours while I did chemo. The visit definitely made the day go by faster.
At about 1pm, I still had a bag of fluids which would take an hour to go through. I asked the nurse if we could run it faster so I could get to the cafeteria before it closed at 2pm. She looked at the machine which was running at 500ml/hr and turned it up to 999ml/hr. 56 min to completion went down to 23min to completion. PICC lines are great 😀
On our way back to the hotel, I was still complaining that I was still hungry. Dad asked me what I wanted to eat and I pressed him again for Taco Bell. Which is exactly what I ended up getting.
I don’t care what anyone else says, I’ve been craving this for weeks. It was amazingly delicious and it will probably be the highlight of my week (Sorry Chris and Sandy).
It definitely is frustrating to go back to the hotel after a full day of sitting in a chair, nap for 3-4 hours right afterwards, be so tired that all you can do is lay in bed the rest of the evening until it’s time to go to sleep, and start the process over the next day but with even less energy.
All I can do is tough through it and know that it’s all for the best and this feeling is expected and only temporary. As I said before, I am a toxic zombie.
Dad and I talked about it yesterday and decided to go with the Neulasta after getting some really helpful tips and personal testimonials from friends who read my blog. I asked to schedule an appointment on Friday to get the patch which will automatically administer the dose. What’s crazy is that one shot of Neulasta will cost between $5,000 to $7000.
Dad passed on some interesting statistics about Neulasta side effects which helped make the decision easier. (Link)
