The couple that we met at the krabi airport suggested that we check out the night market near the Maya lifestyle shopping mall as it was the best seafood they had in Chiang Mai. We caught an uber there in the afternoon and wandered the mall since the night market didn’t start up until 5pm.
Wonder Woman just came out this week and we got there right in time as the last preview was showing. The theater was brand new and seats were super cushy and spacious. I expected the movie to start but a message popped up on the screen that told everyone to stand up for the King’s anthem. For those that don’t know. The entire country is in a year’s long mourning for the last king who passed away last year. I believe his son is going to be crowned later this year. I don’t understand why there needs to be an anthem for the king before a movie but I guess that’s what they do here.
Wonder Woman was pretty good, go see it.
We checked out the night market outside of the mall after the movie. I think because it was 6pm, it was still early and most of the shops hadn’t gotten set up yet. It was kind of small so we decided to check out another night market that runs on Saturday nights on Wu Lai Road. This one was huge, I read that it runs for over half a mile long.
One thing you’ll notice about foreigners in Thailand is that they tend to buy pants with elephants on them. Joanna got a pair on our 2nd day in Bangkok but the prices here in Chiang Mai were much lower. We went from stall to stall looking for the right design and color. She ended up getting a few pairs as gifts for about $3 a pair. She joked that if a thief steals her bag, they’ll be disappointed it’s full of elephant pants that she’s trying to smuggle back home.
We never ended up registering for a Thai cooking class since we got back to the hostel so late. We’ll have to find something to do tomorrow before we catch the train at 6pm back to Bangkok
