Our flight options out to Chiang Mai was either 10am or 8pm. I figured since this was our one fancy stay, we didn’t need to rush out and could enjoy the morning/afternoon so I chose the 8pm flight. The hotel had its own private beach about 10 minutes away and so we went to check that out for a few hours before needing to make our way to the airport. A few hotel guests and us piled into a covered pickup truck and arrived to the beach super quickly. At this point of the day, the tide was at its highest but there were a ton of different seashells that were in very good condition, ripe for the picking. Joanna discovered Thai Coke last night and loves it. I guess it’s a little less sweet than Coke at home.
When we got back to the hotel to get our stuff and catch the city bus to the Krabi Airport one of the staff said that his friend lives nearby and was willing to take us in his car for the same price, 300THB each. I was a little unsure but we got into a stranger’s car because why not? His two little kids were sitting in the front seat which is totally not safe but I guess that’s what they do here. He said that it was his day off and every week he takes his kids to Mcdonalds for happy meals which is why he was in the neighborhood.
The ride was like half an hour and we got to the airport with plenty of time to spare. We met a very nice couple from Atalanta who were traveling in Thailand for their first time. They gave us some really great tips on what to check out and eat during our stay in Chiang Mai. While we were talking with them, another couple sat in front of us and joined the conversation too. It was awesome chatting with these guys because they used to live in Miami and decided to quit their jobs and travel for about 2 years. I think they just started their journey a few months ago. They shared their travel blog which totally blows mine out of the water. Check them out if you get a chance: https://www.thepassportmemorandum.com/
The flight was fine, I passed out for the entirety of it. When we got off the plane, I was going to book an uber to Hug Hostel which was 15 min from the airport. There was an official airport taxi service that charged us 160bht, half the cost of the uber. The hostel is just alright, kind of what you expect for $15 a night for two people. I wandered around the neighborhood looking for food. Got some papaya salad and braised pork belly in a street food area nearby.
I have us booked for an elephant sanctuary trip for a whole day on Friday so tomorrow will be a chill out and rest day.
