Yesterday was our last full day in Tokyo. I had originally planned it so that we could do our trip and have ample time back in Tokyo to shop for Joanna’s makeup needs, clothes for me at Uniqlo (like Japanese GAP), and whatever snacks and souvenirs to bring back home. That way we didn’t have to carry stuff during the entire trip.
The shopping stuff isn’t really anything to write home about, Joanna picked up her 2nd and 3rd pair of glasses in Shinjuku and then bought enough makeup supplies to require tossing out all her clothes in her luggage so she can bring them home. I spent about $200 on Uniqlo clothes.
My friend Bob recommended a wagyu beef steakhouse that he visited in November which we tried going to for lunch as dinner is really expensive. Unfortunately it was too late to make it for their lunch time so we went to a rotating sushi restaurant that I went to last time I was in Tokyo.
Neither of us were very hungry so this was a great choice as you just grab what you want to eat. The total bill for both of us was $13 for 8 plates averaging .80 cents per piece of sushi.
We walked around some more and decided to get a final bowl of ramen. This was my first ramen shop I visited and it held a very high bar for me. Unfortunately Joanna popped that bubble of nostalgia because she thought the broth was too fishy although the noodles and pork were good. I hate to agree with her but she was right…now I’m kind of disappointed it didn’t live up to the first bowl I had before.
On the way back to the hostel we stopped by the nearby temple in Asakusa. It wasn’t swarmed by the normal tourist crowd while we were there and I managed to get a few nice pictures
Joanna wanted to get her fortune done at the temple. In Chinese it’s called “chou cheem” where you make a wish while shaking the metal box until a stick appears with a number on it. You pull the drawer with your corresponding number and read the fortune written on it. I got a bad fortune so I was supposed to tie it to a gate thing instead of bringing it home? I’m not sure of the specifics but it was kind of fun in a cultural experience sort of way.
It’s almost time to go home, I kind of miss my dumb dog, but I definitely don’t miss that one thing that everyone does when they’re not on vacation….oh right, work. Hopefully we can make it to get wagyu beef before we head home.
